ZAP Concepts is an award winning international energy consultancy, specialising in energy assessment and optimal design and management of power supplies for sports events, music festivals, cultural programmes and broadcast.

Our purpose is to enable rapid transition from large scale fuel use and large energy carbon footprint to low carbon, energy effi cient operations.

Our work has covered all the major aspects of live event power:

• Energy Assessment and Carbon Reduction Strategies for large scale events with both temporary and permanent infrastructure on green fi eld sites, urban sites and stadia
• Low carbon off-grid solutions for backup power, temporary venues and broadcast
• Integration of battery systems into temporary and permanent supplies for backup and boosting capacity (peak shaving)

Our Team

PAUL SCHURINK MBE -

Paul ‘Mr Energy’ Schurink founded ZAP Concepts in The Netherlands in 2011. He holds the degree Master of Business in Energy systems (MBE) and has over 30 years event power experience in international projects (Olympics Athens & Torino, UEFA Championships, Volvo Ocean Race and many large scale international

music festivals). Paul is a specialist in grid connected systems, battery systems and zero/low emissions power and works across the globe on high profi le live events of all types.

ROB SCULLY BSc (Hons) AMEI -

Rob is Head of Operations for ZAP Concepts and holds the degree Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Environmental Science. He has 25 years experience in Sustainability and Environmental Management, with a focus on renewables and energy effi ciency, 20 years of which have been spent in large scale

event production. This includes over 15 years as the site manager of one of the most energy efficient and sustainably powered areas of Glastonbury Festival and 6 years carrying out energy monitoring, assessment and power management roles at large scale events in the UK, Ireland, Spain, The Netherlands and, most

recently, China. Rob is an associate member of the Energy Institute and the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment.

TIM BENSON MA TECH IOSH -

Tim is Technical Director for ZAP Concepts and has over 18 years experience in delivering energy assessments and renewable power solutions for international projects (Brighton & Manchester Pride Festivals, We Love Green Festival Paris, Shambala, Formula E, Super Strawberry Festivals China, UEFA Championships, Great North Run, UCI Women’s Tour of Scotland and Godiva Festival). Tim is a specialist in integrating renewables, hybrid power systems and battery technologies to achieve signifi cant fuel and emissions savings. Tim was involved in bringing some of the fi rst commercially available standalone event solar and hybrid systems to UK festivals, some of which are still in use today at festivals including Glastonbury.
