Light and sound in an ice rink, it's something different...
GROUP-PDA has been the technical supplier for the ICEMADNESS event for several years, which is why they can always be found in the ice rink of Sport Vlaanderen Hasselt on the first Friday of a new year. An ice rink has a constant temperature and high humidity, very important when it comes to the choice of materials, the project manager tells us.
“Over the years, GROUP-PDA has invested not only in the materials, but also in the right crew to successfully complete such a production,” he adds. An ice rink is not built to accommodate large events and the roof load is usually limited. To achieve maximum results with a minimum number of sound boxes, array processing is used, reflections are minimized and the subs that are arranged in an arc provide the necessary beats, only where necessary.
"To accentuate an ice surface of 30x60 with light, spotlights with a high output are used. Taking into account the roof load and available power supplies, we therefore also have to reduce the numbers, without having to compromise on the visuals.
Visualization software helps us with this," says the light designer, "so the customer immediately sees what he can expect."

Reeds meerdere jaren is GROUP-PDA de technische leverancier voor het ICEMADNESS event, vandaar ook dat ze telkens weer op de eerste vrijdag van een nieuw jaar terug te vinden zijn in de ijshal van Sport Vlaanderen Hasselt. Een ijshal heeft een constante temperatuur en hoge vochtigheidsgraad, zeer belangrijk wanneer het om de keuze van materialen gaat, vertelt de projectmanager ons.
"GROUP-PDA heeft door de jaren heen niet alleen geïnvesteerd in enkel de materialen, maar ook in de juiste crew om een dergelijke productie tot een goed einde te brengen", voegt hij er aan toe. Een ijshal is niet gebouwd om grote evenementen te huisvesten en de dakbelasting is meestal beperkt, om met een minimaal aantal geluidskasten, een maximaal resultaat te behalen wordt er arrayprocessing toegepast, reflecties worden geminimaliseerd en de subs die in een arc opgesteld staan zorgen voor de nodige beats, enkel daar waar het nodig is.
"Om een ijsvlakte van 30x60 met licht te accentueren wordt er gebruik gemaakt van spots met een hoge output, rekening houdende met de dakbelasting en aanwezige stroomvoorzieningen moeten we daarom ook in aantallen minderen, zonder te moeten inboeten aan het visuele.
