Rotterdam Ahoy exists 50 years
Rotterdam Ahoy is celebrating its 50th anniversary. On January 15, 1971, the current event accommodation in South Rotterdam was officially opened by HRH Prince Claus. The origins of Ahoy go back to 1950, when the harbor exhibition 'Rotterdam Ahoy!' to mark the completion of the reconstruction of the port of Rotterdam, it was held on the spot where the Erasmus MC now stands.
Different kind of party
The plans for the anniversary celebration were different from the current reality. The corona virus that emerged last March and shut down the event industry is the cause of this. Jolanda Jansen, Managing Director Rotterdam Ahoy: "The plan was to go big this month with a party weekend for all our relations and to celebrate the official opening of the brand new Rotterdam Ahoy Convention Center and RTM Stage. Of course we have those plans under the "The current circumstances have been put on hold and we hope to be able to get together later in the year and celebrate this milestone live. After all, we have been around for 50 years and are made for live meetings!" The kick-off of the anniversary year will be festive in a different form.

Special gift

De oorsprong van Ahoy ligt in 1950, toen de havententoonstelling 'Rotterdam Ahoy!’ naar aanleiding van de voltooiing van de wederopbouw van de Rotterdamse haven werd gehouden op de plek waar nu het Erasmus MC staat.

Jolanda Jansen, Algemeen Directeur Rotterdam Ahoy: "Het plan was om deze maand groots uit te pakken met een feestweekend voor al onze relaties en de officiële opening van het gloednieuwe Rotterdam Ahoy Convention Centre en RTM Stage te vieren. Uiteraard hebben we die plannen onder de huidige omstandigheden in de koelkast gezet en hopen we later in het jaar alsnog samen te kunnen komen en deze mijlpaal live te vieren. We bestaan tenslotte een heel jaar 50 jaar en zijn gemaakt voor live ontmoetingen!” De aftrap van het verjaardagsjaar wordt in andere vorm alsnog feestelijk.

Op de webpagina www.ahoy50jaar.nl blikt Ahoy terug op 50 jaar aan bijzondere evenementen en momenten. Een filmpje toont het speciaal ontworpen jubileumlogo, dat de locatie het gehele jaar zal gebruiken. Daarnaast werd er vanmorgen tijdens de dagopening van de eigen vakbeurs InfraTech, die dit jaar geheel online plaatsvindt, aandacht besteed aan het jubileum en wordt er voor nauwe relaties en voor medewerkers van Ahoy morgen een speciale livestream georganiseerd voorafgaand aan 'De Vrienden van Amstel Livestream’.
Bijzonder cadeau
Verder zijn de voorbereidingen in volle gang voor twee bijzondere jubileumactiviteiten: later in het jaar zal Ahoy op haar voorterrein een bijzonder cadeau aan de stad aanbieden en daarnaast wordt gewerkt aan de publicatie van een boek, waarin diverse Rotterdammers en bekenden hun herinneringen aan en visie op Ahoy delen. Jansen: "Deze twee bijzondere items willen we graag presenteren op een moment dat we weer echt samen kunnen komen en het glas kunnen heffen op een geweldige geschiedenis en veelbelovende toekomst!”
