Ghent stadium is growing into an ideal corona-proof event location

The Ghent Ghelamco Arena is buzzing with activity. These days the Arena Group guides and organizes various events for larger audiences, which are received completely corona-proof. HoGent uses the stadium for graduation ceremonies, UGent is organizing lessons for first-year students and Niels Destadsbader is preparing for his first series of concerts in months.

The Arena Group gained extensive experience in organizing events last summer, fully in accordance with the new corona guidelines. More than 50 open air concerts were organized in the Ghent stadium between mid-July and mid-August. Everything went smoothly and safely, partly due to the deployment of stewards who showed the public the way and supervised the corona measures such as mouth mask, hand hygiene and respect for social distancing.

Because of its large capacity on a covered open-air grandstand, the availability of many large spaces and separate entrances and exits, the Ghelamco Arena is an ideal location to organize corona-proof events. The air conditioning system in the interior spaces was also adapted to purify the air extra. The stadium is therefore suitable for safely hosting corporate events for a limited group as well as for larger groups of several hundred people.

HoGent and UGent are guests

"This week, for example, the graduation ceremonies of HoGent will take place in the stadium," explains Barbara Stevens of the Arena Group. “The students and their parents can take a seat in their own bubble in the stands, with respect for social distancing. By bringing them together for the presentation, it is a great way to end their studies. ”

These days Ghent University organizes lessons in the supporters' promenade. “It mainly concerns lessons for first-year students, who have to register in advance. They can take a seat at tables that are set at a sufficient distance from each other and still follow the online lessons in group via a laptop and their own headphones. In this way, the university wants to offer first-year students a safe place to study and still provide some support at the start of the new academic year. ”

November is the month of Niels

November will then again be Niels Destadsbader's month in Ghelamco. He will be able to welcome 1,200 fans there at least seven times. The audience is divided into 3 groups of 400 people, who each enter the stadium via a separate entrance and exit. That way the groups do not come into contact with each other. In the stands, the fans remain in their own bubble, at a distance from the other visitors. During the concert they have to stay seated to respect the social distancing. Food boxes are used for catering, which must be reserved in advance, so that risks are also avoided at the collection point.

The same possibilities in Anderlecht and Genk

"All these events prove that we can indeed receive and guide larger groups of people in a perfectly safe way in the Ghelamco Arena", says Michiel Vanderheyden of the Arena Group. "In the meantime, our group offers the same possibilities in the Lotto Park in Anderlecht and the Luminus Arena in Genk. We can adapt our setting to meet the specific needs of our partners. Het bruist van activiteit in de Gentse Ghelamco Arena. De Arena Group begeleidt en organiseert er dezer dagen diverse events voor grotere publieksgroepen, die volledig coronaproof worden ontvangen. HoGent maakt van het stadion gebruik voor diploma-uitreikingen, UGent richt er lessen in voor de eerstejaarsstudenten en Niels Destadsbader maakt zich op voor zijn eerste concertenreeks in maanden.

De Arena Group deed afgelopen zomer ruime ervaring op in het organiseren van evenementen, volledig conform de nieuwe coronarichtlijnen. Tussen midden juli en midden augustus werden meer dan 50 openluchtconcerten georganiseerd in het Gentse stadion. Alles verliep vlot en veilig, onder meer door de inzet van stewards die het publiek de weg wezen en toezagen op de coronamaatregelen zoals mondmasker, handhygiëne en het respecteren van de social distancing.

Omwille van zijn grote capaciteit op een overdekte tribune in open lucht, de beschikbaarheid van vele grote ruimtes en aparte in- en uitgangen, vormt de Ghelamco Arena een ideale locatie om coronaproof events te organiseren. Ook het aircosysteem in de binnenruimtes werd aangepast om de lucht extra te zuiveren. Het stadion leent er zich dus toe om in alle veiligheid zowel bedrijfsevents voor een beperkt gezelschap als grotere groepen van meerdere honderden personen te ontvangen.

HoGent en UGent te gast

“Deze week vinden bijvoorbeeld de diploma-uitreikingen van HoGent plaats in het stadion”, licht Barbara Stevens van de Arena Group toe. “De studenten en hun ouders kunnen in hun eigen bubbel op de tribune plaatsnemen, met respect voor de social distancing. Door hen samen te brengen voor de uitreiking, kan er toch op een mooie manier een punt achter hun studies worden geplaatst.”

De UGent organiseert dezer dagen lessen in de supporterspromenade. “Het gaat vooral om lessen voor eerstejaarsstudenten, die zich vooraf moeten inschrijven. Ze kunnen plaatsnemen aan tafels die op voldoende afstand van elkaar opgesteld staan en zo toch in groep de online lessen volgen via een laptop en hun eigen hoofdtelefoon. De universiteit wil de eerstejaars op deze manier een veilige studieplek bieden en toch een stuk begeleiden bij de start van het nieuwe academiejaar.”

November is de maand van Niels

November wordt dan weer de maand van Niels Destadsbader in Ghelamco. Hij zal er al minstens zeven keer 1.200 fans kunnen verwelkomen. Het publiek wordt verdeeld in 3 groepen van 400 personen, die telkens via een aparte in- en uitgang het stadion betreden. Op die manier komen de groepen niet met elkaar in contact. In de tribune blijven de fans in hun eigen bubbel, op afstand van de andere bezoekers. Tijdens het concert moeten ze blijven zitten, om de sociale distancing te respecteren. Voor de catering wordt gewerkt met foodboxen die vooraf gereserveerd moeten worden, zodat ook aan het afhaalpunt risico’s worden vermeden.

Dezelfde mogelijkheden in Anderlecht en Genk

"Al deze events bewijzen dat we wel degelijk grotere groepen mensen op een perfect veilige manier kunnen onthalen en begeleiden in de Ghelamco Arena", stelt Michiel Vanderheyden van de Arena Group. "Intussen biedt onze groep trouwens dezelfde mogelijkheden aan in het Lotto Park in Anderlecht en de Luminus Arena in Genk. We kunnen onze setting aanpassen om tegemoet te komen aan de specifieke noden van onze partners. En we putten uit onze intussen ruime ervaring om alles vlot en veilig te laten verlopen. Geïnteresseerden kunnen zeker een kijkje komen nemen."

All Events from Zedelgem converts festival hut into a mobile, covered disinfection unit with machine for mouth masks

The events sector is having a hard time, but it is also prompting a number of suppliers to think about how to deal with the new reality. For example, All Events from Zedelgem has developed the 'sanicabin', a mobile chalet where shoppers can disinfect their hands and find a mouth mask machine. “When the stores reopen soon, we will have a solution that can be delivered quickly and that is easy to install so that you can shop safely,” explains Pieter Luypaert, manager of All Events. All Events was founded in 1999 and specializes in renting and selling infrastructure systems such as mobile chalets and bars, tents and huts. The rental company can count festivals such as Rock Werchter, Graspop Metal Meeting and Tomorrowland among its customers. Many cities and municipalities also turn to All Events to organize their Christmas market. Pieter Luypaert: “The greatest asset of our chalets is the simple assembly and the high-quality material from which they are made. They can take a beating and you can build them with two people in just a few minutes. Moreover, they are compact to transport. This way we get up to 42 easy chalets in 1 truck. ” Safe disinfection while shopping “When the government decided that no mass events were allowed to take place this summer, it was a cut through our bill. But we did not give up and looked for ways to make further useful use of our rental offer. For example, we have a large stock of emergency beds that we can use in the event of a shortage in healthcare institutions. We will soon also be using our double chalets in residential care centers, as a visitor's area with a dividing wall. ” Today All Events has more than 1000 chalets in stock, which will be used temporarily as 'sanicabin'. These units have 4 disinfection poles that can be operated with the foot. Optionally, a machine with mouth masks can also be installed in each unit. Both the posts and the machines are supplied by Mera Claeys from Ruddervoorde. “One of the corona measures is that people have to disinfect their hands at regular intervals, including when they are shopping. Cities and municipalities can decide for themselves whether to offer their mouth masks via the vending machines for free or for free, ”says Francis Claeys, manager of Mera Claeys. De evenementensector krijgt het zwaar te verduren, maar het zet een aantal toeleveranciers ook aan het denken over hoe ze kunnen omspringen met de nieuwe realiteit. Zo heeft All Events uit Zedelgem de ‘sanicabin’ ontwikkeld, een mobiele chalet waarin shoppers hun handen kunnen ontsmetten en een mondmaskerautomaat vinden. “Als binnenkort de winkels heropenen, hebben wij een snel leverbare en makkelijk te plaatsen oplossing om in alle veiligheid te shoppen”, legt Pieter Luypaert, zaakvoerder van All Events uit.

All Events ontstond in 1999 en is gespecialiseerd in het verhuren en verkopen van infrastructuursystemen zoals mobiele chalets en bars, tenten en hutten. Het verhuurbedrijf mag festivals als Rock Werchter, Graspop Metal Meeting en Tomorrowland tot zijn klanten rekenen. Ook heel wat steden en gemeenten kloppen bij All Events aan voor het inrichten van hun kerstmarkt.

Pieter Luypaert: “De grootste troef van onze chalets zijn de eenvoudige montage en het hoogwaardige materiaal waaruit ze vervaardigd zijn. Ze kunnen tegen een stootje en je bouwt ze met twee personen in amper enkele minuten op. Bovendien zijn ze compact te transporteren. Zo krijgen we tot 42 easy chalets in 1 vrachtwagen.”

Veilig ontsmetten tijdens het shoppen

“Toen de regering besliste dat er deze zomer geen massa-evenementen mochten plaatsvinden, was dat een streep door onze rekening. Maar we bleven niet bij de pakken zitten en hebben naar manieren gezocht om ons verhuuraanbod verder nuttig in te zetten. Zo beschikken we over ruime voorraad noodbedden, die we bij een tekort in zorginstellingen kunnen inzetten. Binnenkort zullen we ook onze dubbele chalets inzetten in woonzorgcentra, als bezoekersruimte met tussenwand.”

Vandaag heeft All Events meer dan 1000 chalets op voorraad, die tijdelijk zullen worden gebruikt als ‘sanicabin’. In deze units staan 4 ontsmettingspalen die met de voet bediend kunnen worden. Optioneel kan er in elke unit ook een automaat met mondmaskers worden geïnstalleerd. Zowel de palen als de automaten worden geleverd door Mera Claeys uit Ruddervoorde.

“Eén van de coronamaatregelen is dat mensen op geregelde tijdstippen hun handen moeten ontsmetten, dus ook wanneer ze aan het winkelen zijn. Steden en gemeenten kunnen zelf beslissen of ze hun mondmaskers via de automaten betalend of gratis aanbieden”, stelt Francis Claeys, zaakvoerder van Mera Claeys.

Een oplossing voor diverse sectoren

Steden mogen elke cabin ook een eigen look & feel geven. “Ze kunnen er hun logo op plaatsen of op de wanden affiches met preventieboodschappen aanbrengen. En door meerdere chalets naast elkaar te zetten kunnen een groot aantal mensen op korte tijd hun handen desinfecteren.”

Ook voor andere organisaties is de sanicabin interessant. “We hebben voldoende capaciteit om de units ook bij scholen en bedrijven te plaatsen. Zeker op plaatsen waar er veel verloop van mensen is, bijvoorbeeld op werven of in drukke treinstations, is het een efficiënte en weerbestendige oplossing, die je, eenmaal de crisis achter de rug is, snel weer kunt wegnemen”, aldus Pieter Luypaert van All Events.

Arena Events presents a unique series of concerts in safe conditions

The summer of 2020 will be completely different than it used to be. Due to the measures to prevent the spread of the corona virus, festivals or major events are not allowed. And yet, after a long period of lockdown, everyone has a desire to fly back in and a need for social contact and experience. Arena Events from Ghent makes it possible to see the top of the Flemish music scene at work. From July 10 to August 7 it organizes a series of 50 'corona proof' summer concerts in the Ghelamco Arena in Ghent. Arena Events, like the entire event sector, has been affected by the corona crisis. Michiel Vanderheyden: "We didn't want to give up. We thought thoroughly about how to send a positive signal. After the last security council, where the government allowed cultural performances for up to 200 people, we worked hard to create a new form of concert experience. Within the Ghelamco Arena and with our extensive event experience, we have developed a concept that makes this possible in the safest circumstances. " An exciting program with top Flemish artists When Arena Events presented the idea to the Flemish artists, there was immediate enthusiasm. A summer full of music! We see each other again, albeit in smaller numbers, both on and around the stage. Artists, booking agencies and the organizers of Arena Events joined forces. The result will be an exciting program with 50 live concerts, every day from July 10 to August 7. For example, it has already been established that Flemish toppers such as The Starlings, Paul Michiels, Mama's Jasje, Guy Swinnen, Sioen, Lady Linn, Belle Perez, Bent Van Looy and Stan Van Samang will play a concert in the Ghelamco Arena between 10 and 26 July. The fact that the artists play in a limited setting or acoustic setup will also contribute to the experience. “A whole series of extra security measures have been taken in the stadium,” explains Barbare Stevens of Arena Events. “The arrival is spread over different entrances, so that there are no bottlenecks. We have an adapted ventilation system to disinfect the air on the promenade where the check-in of the concertgoers is handled contactlessly. There is one-way traffic in the stadium and hand gel is widely available. The sanitary facilities are regularly cleaned before and after, but also during the event. And all seats are disinfected before a new concert can start. ” Book online only, possibly 2 concerts per day. Ticket sales for the concerts start today, Friday 19 June, via www.arenaconcerten.be . From July 10 to August 7 there will be a concert at 9 pm daily. If the concert is sold out, there will be a second concert at 6 pm. On Sundays, matinee shows are also scheduled at 11am. Tickets cost between 23 and 30 euros (excluding reservation costs). The reservation of the tickets is done completely online. Catering is also available (boxes of drinks and snacks tailored to children and adults), which are pre-ordered online. This limits handling and the risk of contamination. De zomer van 2020 wordt helemaal anders dan vroeger. Door de maatregelen om de verspreiding van het coronavirus tegen te gaan, zijn er geen festivals of grote evenementen toegelaten. En toch heeft iedereen na een lange periode van lockdown goesting om er weer in te vliegen en nood aan sociaal contact en beleving. Arena Events uit Gent maakt het alvast mogelijk om de top van de Vlaamse muziekscene aan het werk te zien. Van 10 juli tot 7 augustus organiseert het een reeks van 50 ‘coronaproof’ zomerconcerten in de Ghelamco Arena in Gent.

Arena Events is net als de hele eventsector getroffen door de coronacrisis. Michiel Vanderheyden: "We wilden niet bij de pakken blijven neerzitten. We hebben grondig nagedacht over hoe we een positief signaal konden geven. Na de laatste veiligheidraad, waar de overheid culturele voorstellingen tot 200 personen mogelijk maakte, hebben we hard gewerkt om een nieuwe vorm van concertbeleving op punt te stellen. Binnen de Ghelamco Arena en met onze ruime event ervaring hebben we een concept uitgewerkt waarbij dat in de meest veilige omstandigheden mogelijk wordt."

Een boeiend programma met Vlaamse topartiesten

Toen Arena Events het idee voorlegde aan de Vlaamse artiesten, was er onmiddellijk enthousiasme. Ook zij moesten immers noodgedwongen hun activiteiten stopzetten en hun plannen voor de zomer opbergen. Peter Vanlaet (Mama’s Jasje): “Dit is uiteindelijk waar ik toch stiekem had op gehoopt. Een zomer vol muziek! We zien elkaar terug, weliswaar in kleinere getallen, zowel op als rond het podium. Unplugged, maar daarom niet minder gezellig.” “Wat een heerlijk gevoel wetende dat ik na lange tijd weer op het podium zal staan met mijn muzikanten”, geeft ook Belle Perez toe. “Het belooft een speciale avond te worden!”

Artiesten, boekingskantoren en de organisatoren van Arena Events sloegen de handen in elkaar. Het resultaat wordt een boeiend programma met 50 live concerten, dagelijks van 10 juli tot 7 augustus. Zo staat nu al vast dat tussen 10 en 26 juli Vlaamse toppers als The Starlings, Paul Michiels, Mama’s Jasje, Guy Swinnen, Sioen, Lady Linn, Belle Perez, Bent Van Looy en Stan Van Samang een concert zullen spelen in de Ghelamco Arena. Meer details over de invulling van de concertagenda voor de periode van 27 juli tot 7 augustus volgen nog.

Een volledig veilige setting

De Arena Zomerconcerten zijn een dubbele primeur: het gaat om de eerste live concerten in Vlaanderen sinds de lockdown en bovendien is het ook de allereerste keer dat er in de Gentse voetbaltempel concerten worden georganiseerd. Michiel Vanderheyden van Arena Events: “De Ghelamco Arena beantwoordt aan alle voorwaarden voor de veilige organisatie van deze concerten. We hebben alle ruimte en mogelijkheden om een coronaproof setting te creëren voor de 200 toeschouwers die we per concert mogen toelaten. We willen tonen dat coronamaatregelen en sfeervolle concertbeleving perfect te verzoenen zijn.”

Concreet zal het publiek in de overdekte tribune in bubbels worden verdeeld van 1 tot 4 personen, waarbij tussen elke bubbel anderhalve meter social distancing wordt gehouden. De zitplaatsen worden met groene stickers aangeduid en het publiek wordt van aankomst tot seating begeleid door safety hosts. Aan alle gasten wordt gevraagd tijdens het concert te blijven zitten, om de veiligheid te garanderen.

Het overdekte podium wordt gebouwd boven de dug-out waar normaal de voetbalspelers plaatnemen. Sfeervolle verlichting zorgt voor een intieme sfeer. Ook het feit dat de artiesten in een beperkte setting of akoestische opstelling spelen, zal bijdragen tot de beleving.

“In het stadion zijn een hele reeks extra veiligheidsmaatregelen genomen”, legt Barbare Stevens van Arena Events uit. “De aankomst wordt gespreid over verschillende ingangen, zodat er geen bottlenecks ontstaan. We hebben een aangepast verluchtingssysteem om de lucht te ontsmetten op de wandelpromenade waar de check-in van de concertgangers contactloos wordt afgehandeld. In het stadion geldt éénrichtingsverkeer en is handgel ruim beschikbaar. Het sanitair wordt voor en na, maar ook tijdens het event geregeld gepoetst. En alle zitplaatsen worden ontsmet voor er een nieuw concert mag starten.”

Alleen online reserveren, wellicht 2 concerten per dag

De ticketverkoop voor de concerten gaat vandaag, vrijdag 19 juni, van start via www.arenaconcerten.be. Van 10 juli tot 7 augustus zal er dagelijks een concert zijn om 21 uur. Indien het concert uitverkocht is, komt er een tweede concert om 18 uur. Op zondag zijn ook matinee-voorstellingen gepland om 11 uur. Tickets kosten tussen 23 en 30 euro (exclusief reservatiekosten).

De reservatie van de tickets gebeurt volledig online. Er is ook catering beschikbaar (boxen met drank en versnapering op maat van kinderen en volwassenen), die vooraf online wordt besteld. Zo wordt de handling en het risico op besmetting beperkt. De online ticketing maakt het ook mogelijk om achteraf, indien nodig, tracing te voorzien en de aanwezigen te contacteren.

Radio 2 brengt verslag uit

Eén van de partners voor de Arena Zomerconcerten is Radio 2. Nethoofd Rino Ver Eecke: “Steun aan de Vlaamse artiesten zit in het DNA van Radio 2. Dus ook als de omstandigheden tegen zitten.
