Couples can no longer get married by Elvis Presley impersonators in the casino city of Las Vegas. Authentic Brands Group, the company that manages the name and image of the 'King of Rock and Roll', has decided.
According to the American showbiz website TMZ, all wedding chapels in the city have been ordered to stop the practice. "It's a matter of protecting the singer's name," it sounds.
The name of Elvis Presley has a protective trademark, which means that marriages should not actually be performed by imitators. The Authentic Brands Group has now sent letters to all wedding chapels in Las Vegas informing them. Chapels that do go ahead with it can expect legal action, according to the company.
It is not clear why action is only now being taken against the Elvis impersonators. In Las Vegas, marriages have been performed by 'Elvises' for decades. TMZ writes that Vegas weddings bring the city about 2 billion dollars (1.8 billion euros) annually. Weddings with 'The King' are a big part of that.

TMZ schrijft dat Vegas-bruiloften de stad jaarlijks zo'n 2 miljard dollar (1,8 miljard euro) opleveren. Trouwerijen met 'The King' maken daar een groot deel van uit.
